GamersInfo.net speaks with Nathan Richardsson, Senior Producer for EVE Online, about his history in the games industry, and the future of EVE Online.
GamersInfo.net: Please give me your job title, and description of your job in about 5 sentences.

Nathan Richardsson: I'm Senior Producer of EVE at CCP Games. I manage the development of EVE, coordinate the teams and try to make sure everyone is working towards the same goals. It ranges from traditional project management, to game design, creating and maintaining policy and more strategic directing. Well, that's the glorified version; usually I walk around with a cowboy hat screaming out random words of inspiration.

GamersInfo.net: What's the first video game experience you remember vividly?

Nathan Richardsson: Pong! It really is, as strange as it may sound. In retrospect, it's the incredibly simple gameplay which provided fun at that time and it really shows that in reality, you need to get the core gameplay right, the rest is fluff. I also think that the most fun was to play other people, so if you think about it, one of the first games ever made was really set out from the beginning as a multi-player game and that's is quite interesting in my opinion.

We at CCP are firm believers in Player vs. Player interaction and think that this is the fundamental competitive feeling that is driving games. If you listen to kids, even though the game is a single-player only game, they are still comparing themselves to each other and bragging about what level they won or which monster they have been able to kill.
