The latest Glimpse Inside at the official Earth & Beyond site talks about music in the game. Paul Mudra, Westwood's senior audio director, and Frank Klepacki, senior composer, explain some of the ideas and features for Earth and Beyond's in-game musical scores:
We're creating these themes so that they can be combined together," Paul said. "The beginning and ending have to be identical for each segment, so they can loop. For example, during two minutes of gameplay you will hear four 30-second segments. But those segments will be randomized, and you probably won't even perceive that there are separate segments."
He also explained that if a player is flying through space and listening to an exploration track, but then enters combat, the theme music will switch to a combat track. When the combat is over, the music will revert to the exploration track; however, it won't revert to the beginning, but will pick up at the point in the track where you entered combat. This will prevent the repetition of hearing the same theme restart after battle. |
