Square and Enix, who recently announced they will merge in April of next year, held a strategy conference in Tokyo to discuss the future of the new company, Square Enix Inc. More information was offered on both companies' largest franchises.
On the Square side, negotiations with Disney are underway regarding a sequel to Kingdom Hearts (For those of you who don't know, Kingdom Hearts was a joint project by Square and Disney involving characters from the Final Fantasy series and many Disney films, as well as original characters and storylines.). As for their signature series, Square's top development staff is hard at work on Final Fantasy 12 and said that development on Final Fantasy 13 has not begun.
Enix's next big game will be Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (Playstation 2 bound, it's the sequel to Star Ocean: The Second Story, quite a popular RPG with Playstation owners), which is expected to sell over 2 million copies worldwide. Development is also well underway on the recently revealed Dragon Quest/Warrior 8.
Square Enix also plans is to increase its broadband network business, as the Windows version of Final Fantasy 11 was just released on November 27 in Japan. More than 120,000 PS2 users are playing regularly on Square's PlayOnline servers. Enix announced a number of tentative online projects previously, but the company's focus is on Square's online project for now.
