For every spell cast by the wild mage there is a 5 percent chance that the spell will explode in what BioWare calls a Wild Surge. This causes a random magical effect, such as the spell being cast at double effectiveness, or a fireball hitting the mage itself and any party members within the spell's radius, or, surprisingly, a cow may fall out of the sky onto the target of the spell.
