An interview with Todd Howard, Project Leader for Morrowind, has been posted at RPGVault. Here's something:
Jonric: Looking back over the entire development period, what were the most difficult decisions you had to make? Why were they difficult, and how did you ultimately resolve them?
Todd Howard: Switching from a random world to a hand built one was agonizing. Really agonizing. "How big is big enough?" was a question I asked for the first year. We made different maps, we did tests. Density of towns, density of dungeons. Then walk around the world. Am I bored? Am I seeing too much stuff and getting lost? That was hard. We solved the size problem by building more than we thought anyone could ever see. I think the game is actually too big. I'll be shocked if anyone sees everything. They are undecided about an expansion pack - so let them know that there is nothing to be undecided about *G*. |
