Here's a bit from that preview: It may not be the most stimulating prose, but this story takes a character I created from the old Traveller pen & paper RPG series (which ate up too many of my early gaming years) and moves him into a new universe being created by Westwood Studios for its upcoming MMORPG, Earth and Beyond. Using the game's character creation rules, I can easily resurrect my Terran trader Lance Thomasson from Traveller and build him in Westwood's immensely intricate space setting. The universe of Earth and Beyond is huge. There are three major ways to travel in your ship in the game: Standard Maneuvering, Warp Speed, and Star Gates. The Star Gates are the key to cross-sector travel. Even at Warp, traveling across a sector can take several minutes of game time, while crossing the whole game universe could take hours.
