Talking about Throne of Darkness - there's a preview of the nearly finished game out at Gamesdomain.Since most say it will be a Diablo clone, here's something about the differences:
The first major difference (aside from the Japanese setting) is undoubtedly the implementation of teammates. You can have up to four characters in your party at any one time, but only control one of them directly. The key to maintaining your party is setting formations and using tactics that are more akin to Baldur's Gate, in order to make use of the different character classes available. For example, it's no good sticking your archer or spellcaster right in the middle of a swordfight - instead, you can use them to provide supporting fire for your shock troops. There are 12 formations available but to bring some order to the chaos that ensues in the typical battle sequence, you can assign different formations to various hotkeys, making your team much easier to control. You can also set which weapons you'd like the characters to use, and how aggressive you want them to be.
The fact that there are seven different character classes available, but you can only use four of them at any one time, provides a good strategic element to the game. Swapping out characters is possible, but always at the cost of mana. The characters also increase their skills through experience, making it even more of a dilemma to choose the best combinations for any one battle. |
