Gamespy has a preview of Etherlords up on their pages. Here's a bit:
"The original idea behind Etherlords is to bring the fun of collectible card games combat to PC turn-based strategy," says Serge Orlovsky, the president of Nival Interactive, and the power behind Etherlords. "The focus of the game is one-on-one heroes combat where your only weapons are magic spells. With over 300 spells, you have an immense choice of winning combinations to create individual battle tactics against your enemies."
Be it campaign or single-mission, Etherlords is played on two levels: strategic and tactical. The strategic level map uses a 3-D zoomable and rotatable perspective, and a lush perspective it is. Fronds sway in the breeze, eagles float in the sky, and creatures tromp through magic portals. Each hero rides his or her own steed, be it beetle or horned spider-looking thing. Said heroes explore the map in turn-based time, fighting enemies they meet, uncovering resources, casting global spells, and capturing buildings. The feel is unmistakably Might and Magic, brought forward into a bucolic 3D world.
"Etherlords is one of the very few turn-based strategy titles with cutting-edge true 3D graphics, free camera, and thorough attention given to details," says Orlovsky. "Our intention was to make the game as spectacular as only console titles could aspire to look so far. To that end we gave a lot of thought and effort to object animations and special effects in both strategic and combat modes." |
