Today's feature at RPGVault is a Black Moon Chronicles Q&A with Communications & Marketing Manager François Bourdeau from Vircom. Here's a bit:
Jonric: Since most of our readers are probably unfamiliar with the Black Moon Chronicles graphic novels, please introduce them. Who writes and publishes them? How long has the series been running, what distinguishes the series and why is it popular?
François Bourdeau: Black Moon Chronicles is a series of graphic novels published by the French publishing giant Dargaud. Since its first episode, in the mid-'80s, the series has sold over a million copies worldwide and has become a classic in its genre. Black Moon Chronicles has actually nine episodes, but at least two others are on the way, plus a special episode focusing on Gorghor Bey, one of the series' central characters.
Its author, François Marcela Froideval, has an impressive personal background as a fantasy writer. He has created many different graphic novel series before and after Black Moon Chronicles. He also has participated, among other mandates, in the development of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons with TSR's Gary Gygax.
Black Moon Chronicles became a classic in the genre because of its dark ambiance and the unstable nature of the universe in which the story takes place. From the first to the ninth episode, alliances are created and others are broken; treason and treachery are frequent and true friendships rarely last. Angels and devils fight to influence the leaders and to guide them according to their interests. Nothing is what is seems at first, and I think it is one of the main reasons for Black Moon Chronicles fans to keep coming back and asking for more. |
