Ok, this is a problem I just haven't figured out. Gothic randomly crashes and goes back to Windows whenever I am attacked by any groups of enemies. The first time it happened was when I was fighting with 3 fire lizards, as soon as they start to charge me the game just exits, and Windows brings yp the error report option.

My system is composed of:
AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 8500 (latest official drivers)
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 (latest drivers too)
Running Windows XP Professional

I'm also wondering if anyone has come across this bug?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This is likely a sound setting problem. Try going from whatever you have now, to a different option.

I've already tried switching from EAX 2 to DirectSound HW 3D but still no results. Ieven tried alternating Reverb on and off. The one option I have left is to completely switch off hardware sound.

Thanks though.

Still no luck fixing it.
Even with sound set to Miles Fast the problem reoccurs.

Do you get this 'mss32.dll' error message?
You can try to replace the file with the newer
version (the link can be found in another thread). Maybe that one is more compatible.

Try lowering your sample-rate.
That did it for me.
44 Mhz -> crashed
22 Mhz -> works fine
