Well...I just finished the game issues and all. I think I'll wait for the card to start a new game and see what happens.

Ahhh...But you were, so don't sell your self short. All of you had valid point and gave good direction on possibilities for the jerky behavior.

Let me put it this way…I don’t remember any of the PB crew chiming in on this one…and for all of you that work for a software house like me, I think you'll agree that a good tech support is what your clients remember.

PB provides no tech support at all. Their position is that this is the publisher´s job. Might be a contract/money thing. Nico´s posts here and on the JoWooD boards are voluntarily, often done in his free time. So be happy when he helps but don´t expect him to answer every thread.
Just to clarify, not to defend PBs´ and JoWooDs´ (lack of) tech support.

Gorath, I‘m just stating what I observe. There are many threads under this heading where someone from PB has offered some info in one form or another. I never stated that PB had to help me with this issue; I merely said that while others offer their help in one form or another, PB chose to remain silent…nothing more, nothing less. I will say though, I had hoped someone from PB would have offered me in little insight into the workings of the system calc. routine that runs when the switch is turned on because that's when it all started. Now that I am done with the game and have spent over $300 to try and get the game to run acceptable with the bells & whistles tuned on, I will start to dissect this performance issue…Also why would I go to JoWood for this? The game runs…and if I roll back the high end stuff it runs great…it looks s#&%$y but it run. What I’m trying to figure out is why the performance would degrade going to a faster CPU instead of increasing.

I went a little farther than that…I uninstalled & reinstalled the game. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great. The guys over at PB did a spectacular job in rendering the game. I mean, IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL!! I can not express the massive difference the game took on with this new card. All the textures now look truly alive. All the clouds casting shadows on the land, the reflections of the clouds on the water and the colors…WOW! The new card is worth every penny I spent for it and it is giving me rock solid f-rates…and I do mean rock solid. This is not a f-rate problem, I am almost positive about that now. I am getting almost the same rates I was getting with the GF4 Ti4200. It has to be something else…Something in the engine maybe, the way the images are given to the card.

I just can’t believe how different the game looks with this high-end card. I found and equipped a Wolf’s Tooth sword (started new game) and then switched to 3rd person view (I play in 1st person) to look at it and all the scroll work on the blade really stands out. The new card really improves on the color & texture of the game.

Well here is the latest on my growing obsession with the jerky behavior of G2. I have found (it wasn’t easy) the CodeCreatures Benchmarking tool and will run it on my system tonight. Also I have just received a new SATA drive that I am going to set up XP pro on to see if the transfer rate of the hard drive has any impact on the games performance.

If there is anyone that has a G2 install that runs smooth while running around in the country side, could you please do me a favor and let me know what type of equipment you are running G2 on. It might help me nail this down.

Thanks…

In the countryside: not choppy at all.
My equipment: AMD 1700+, 512 MB SDRAM, Win XP home ed, elderly GeForce 4 To 4200 with a broken fan, Creative Sb Live! Digital, decrepit VIA chipset board which suffers from power shorts if things get stressy, Liteon DVD ROM, water cooling, additional external video board cooling, two other heat sinks.

Also run a test with disabled hardware acceleration, just to see if it´s really as slow as it should be.

Jaz, what kind of performance do you get in the city…The city runs pretty well on my system…60/80 FPS in houses…16/37 FPS around town. I have noticed that it gets real jerky as I enter the tunnel going to the ship and if I stand by the frying pan (where the rat was) and look at the city, there is a spot where Frate drops to 8. If, as you say, G2 runs fine on your system (not jerky) there must be something on my system that is impacting on my G2 install.

Gorath, could you a little deeper in what you are looking for? What should be slow?
