Yes, another request for help regarding poor performance |

PC stats
CPU: 1.3GHz Athlon
RAM: 384 DDR
Video Card: 64Mb GeForce2 MX
I don't think I have a good enough video card or maybe memory for morrowind.
1) occasionally the game will freeze for a second or so
2) i can see the trees being drawn in the distance
3) the framerate is about 1 frame a second during combat
I spoke with the techie kid I know, we all got the one guy that knows everything about computers, and he said it has to do with the MX, that MX cards cannot handle DirectX 8. I play Dungeon Siege, a recent game, but no problems there. I do have the same framerate problems during high action scenes in Spider-Man, so I bought the XBox version. Am I going to have to do the same with Morrowind?
I also have a spare Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64MB card but my friend said that won't do much more for it, either.
So at work (Best Buy), I've had my eye on an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 64Mb DDR card for a few months (for video editing), so I was wondering if that will be compatible. My friend also said ATI has a 128Mb DDR card of the same ilk, but that won't do much in regards to gaming.
Man, there should be a compatibility list for video cards.
BTW - Yes, I have tried the patch from the other 7-page thread. _________________ ~ Reverend Wes Ide ~

Have you tried any of the fix's people have suggested around here? i.e. the Nocd patch that will remove Safedisc from running. Setting the settings certain ways etc etc?
And defragmenting helps a lot also specially if you haven't done it recently and d/l a buncha crap off the net like me.
I uninstalled my game, defragmented, reinstalled, helped quite a bit. _________________ Shifter |

The key to your issue appears to be your video card, GeForce 2 MX. The techie kid spoke the truth when he said the MX line sucks; it does. Get a new card, even a GeForce 2 Ultra 64 would have been a better bet (and cheap too). |

These cards are supported:
VIDIA GeForce 4
NVIDIA GeForce 3
NVIDIA GeForce 2
NVIDIA GeForce 256
NVIDIA TNT2
ATI Radeon 8500
ATI Radeon 7500
ATI Radeon 7200
ATI Radeon
But it is not really compatibility list because there are other cards that are not supported, but it is possible to play game with them. |
