I didn't like Dungeon Master etc., either. Combat much too complicated for my taste, not seeing my peeps didn't helpme to like it, either...

...the only game I liked where you couldn't see your party on-screen was Lands of Lore, even though it's widely seen as 'role-playing light'.
But since I like hybrids...

I didn't really care for the first person view in Wizardry 8 either. But I gave it time and it grew on me. I guess for some it's an acquired taste.

I'll go for Lands of Lore II as the worst. I had high hopes when I bought this one but I would soon get really disappointed. Nothing was good in this game. The story was boring and worst of all the main character was plain stupid looking and had bad voice-acting. Damn this game was bad.

I found it very entertaining, especially the involuntary form switches during the first part. Boy, this worked wonders on my determination to find a method to control them...

Not many people liked it, but for me LoL2 was a very good game (even though the assumption was made that the hero of LoL1 had been Kieran the Huline... whereas my fave PC was Ak'shel the Dracoid )

the worst

Worst RPG has to be Betrayal at Antara. Thank Gawd I only payed $10 for this. Dull characters. Utterly incomprehensible magic. Geography based on what an 8-year-old would come up with. Having to rest 10 days in the wilderness to heal from a fight. And a feature I have never seen before and hope to never see again, decaying weapons. That's right, after several fights, your weapons become all but useless. I actually finished this horror just to see if there was anything to redeem it--there wasn't.
And all you who dis Wiz8 because it's first person--guess you won't be playing Might & Magic anytime soon...

HolyWarrior I was just about to reply with a similar statement. THE worst CRPG that I have played in my life is Betrayal in Antara.

Worst RPGs ever are Ultima 8 & 9. They destroyed my faith in RPGs for a long time. After a great series of fantastic games, they managed to destroy everything that was good in Ultimas. I still remember the disappointment I felt when I played Ultima 8...

Descent to Underwold - yuk.
I thought the last Lands of Lore was pathetic, too.

Pool of Radiance 2. Maybe not the worst ever but certainly one of the most dissapointing.

Ultima VIII was indeed a disappointment. I never found my way in the catacombs. The game didn't have the feeling of a real world, just separate 'levels'.
Strangely enough, I liked the arcade elements, I just hated the fact that I couldn't progress in the game because I couldn't find the places I was supposed to go
