I would imagine (i.e. I hope) that as the story progresses we will find out more about "me".

SPOILER ALERT

As we all know now, Xardas planned the entire thing(the Sleeper, the Undead Dragon because of failure in the Temple of the Sleeper, and so on), and since you get thrown in with a letter adressed to Xardas, my guess is that Xardas had something to do with it. If not, he wouldn't have known that the Chosen of Innos would ever get inside the Barrier.

Remember, Xardas conviced the king to create the Barrier because he wanted to seal in the Sleeper so that the Chosen could kill him, not because of the ore, so he planned everything we've played through this far..

Also, keep in mind that Xardas was a member of the high counsil at this time, and the most powerful magician in the entire kingdom. A member of the high counsil is above the king when it comes to justice, so he alone has the power to sentence people to the Valley of Mines(or to their death if that is what he wished).

I Gothic 1 the hero asks about what happen to the women that got thrown in with him; maybe he sleep with the king's daughter by accident.

LOL nice one Xerxes :)Maylander, yes, it definately apears he accustrated a lot of this, but knowing who the chosen of innos was, I mean no one knew that or could know that, else from birth they would of taken him into the ranks of the fire magicians or the kings paladins to serve Innos...

Why he was chucked in, is still unclear I believe...

Perhaps he was spawned along with the false accusation of having committed a crime the moment before the game started - and without a name. After all, he's an avatar, a physical manifestation of a god.
