I just picked up Gothic yesterday and have figured out the whole interface system, no problem, with the exception of how to cast spells.
I've got one of my spells (Sleep) set up as the #4 hotkey. I press 4, then CTL+UP, then pick a target... then what? I've tried ENTER, I've tried the SPACEBAR, I've tried CTL again... I can't seem to figure out the last step.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Keep holding up until something happens. Most spells require you to keep holding up the entire casting time (and some a little longer).

You should also know that every scroll requires certain amount of mana (so if you currently have less mana points or your max. mana doesnt reach that level, you will not be able to cast that spell).
Example:
Army of Darkness 25
Rage 10
Shrink Monster 5
Summon Demon 20

Increased mana cost will result in a longer casting time. |

Which is why I suggest holding up the up key until something happens or completes.
Transforming into a meatbug for instance... I had to do it a dozen times before I held the key down until the transformation was complete.

Back to the subject of casting spells again...
I'm still relatively early into the game and have found, bartered and purchased a few spells along the way. What came as a surprise to me is that when the spells are cast, they're gone from your list of those available. Like, man, that kinda sucks. I'm guessing the scrolls self-destruct or something, eh?
Anyway, is there any point during the game that your spells stick with you or do you have to become a member of the Sect for that to happen?
Thanks,
M

Ok, the scrolls get used up.
Once you have training in magic, from any of the camps, you may use a Rune which has an unlimited number of uses, but you can only use a Rune of the Circle of Magic you are in (or lower). |
