New Shareware RPG "Prelude to Darkness" -- Qualit |
|
I've just spent the evening playing "Prelude to Darkness" and I found it highly enjoyable. It's a shareware RPG ala "Avernum" but it has a graphical style similar to Neverwinter NIghts. Although it's not as visually polished as that title, it's still gets the job done. You can only stay in one town (and it's surroundings) for the shareware, but it definately feels alive and intriguing, with NPC characters realistically responding to your actions. Ultima-style quests, a really snappy and satisfying turn-based combat system, skill-based character development (ALA Morrowind, but you get XP for completed quests, too) and a tempting plot have hooked me. It's a little rough around the edges (a few bugs, interface quirks), but I think the Zero Sum devs are on to something really good with this title.
Anyone who's interested in something new from the 'underground', give this game a shot. I'd love to hear what you folks think of it.
