GothicDot now holds the latest Gothic patch - 1.08k - for you. This patch was released today and is for those with problems with Radeon video cards and possibly GeForce 3. Here's what PB has to say about it:
This patch fixes occasional crashes during gamestart. Especially if you play under Windows 98 and use some weird graphiccard/driver combination there is a possibilty that the game crashes with an illegal call to a directx utility function named "D3DXGetDeviceCount". This misbehaviour is now corrected as we do now link the gothic.exe with the directx 8 libraries, which do better support the newer driver and graphiccards. We suggest to use this exe only if you encounter crashes during gamestart (in detail: if you encounter crashes with the radeon 8500 or the Geforce 3 under Win98) This version is not supported by Piranha-Bytes.
The 5MB download can be found at here... |

So this is unofficial? Any news on an official patch? |

Well - it comes from PB, was written in the PB QA, but they don't want to support it. I fully understand - they don't have the manpower to do support. I think this is rather a legal phrase than distrust in what they have done...
This is what I got from Björn in my mail:
Many Users have problems with Gothic and the Radeon cards with Win 98. We worked out a solution and now we released a patch (version 1.08k) for Gothic! With the ati-driver 4.13.7191 for Win 98 Gothic runs properly on our systems. Is there an opportunity for us to put the patch on one of your servers to download for our users?
Of course I agreed
So, I think it is official, but unsupported. |
