where do I find the T'rang samurai

where do I find the T'rang samurai
   

The hint book reckons that before tackling the Northern Wilderness, I should go back & collect a T'rang samurai.

I'm happy enough with the Savnt Trooper whom they tell me to dismiis, but I am wondering if I should have gone with a Smaurai, rather than a Ninja, in my party, so would like to try one out, in case I play through again.

However, I can't seem to find this T'Rang Samurai of whom they speak! Where is he?

The Mine Tunnels area. That's the same area where you found the trooper.

Thanks for teh very quick reply!

I have been looking there - I think. Are we talking above ground, outside, where I found the trooper? I have been below ground, with the rest of the T'Rang, examining each one individually, to see if they are a Samurai.

That's the wrong area. Now, where you found the trooper off to the side there is a slope leading up. Follow that. You'll come to a place where you'll find a hidden door. When you open it there is a T'Rang inside a little control-type room. That's the T'Rang your looking for. Although personally, I'd stick with the trooper if you don't already have a monk.

ok, now I understand, thanks.

I am tempted to try the Samurai, as I haven't played one before & wonder if I should use one instead of a Ninja, enxt time around.

The thing is, I already have 3 short range warriors - Fighter, Ninja & Lord, so if I the Sanmurai, I'd have to place the lord on the flanks & have him use more magic, which would be a pity as he has very good sword skills by now.

Otoh, I have the Savant Monk on the flanks, using a fire spear or similar at distance and only getting to fight properly at very close range. Otoh, it's nice to have some of his abilities, like fighting when blind.

You can get as many chars as you want to be in close range by putting nobody in the front, just use the middle and flanks; then the game ignores the front. Anyone you want to protect can then go into the rear slot.

Wow! Incredible trick. How could I have missed that??? Thans a 1,000,000

As it happens, I have gone all the way back & found the T'rang Samurai & now I have decided not to use him. I'll stick with Vi & the android monk.

My favorite! It means that everyone but my protected bishop gets a shot in every battle. None of my girls can sit around buffing their nails during battle any more, using the excuse that "Orphea's in my way.."

I wish I'd thought of this my first time through, but now I use it every time. When I'm only playing 4 characters, I put 3 in the middle and my bishop in the back.

My other favorite trick is initiating combat when it will give me the drop on somebody. I had a mental block about it my first game, but it can really work to your advantage.

Yah, somewhere around my 10th start, i reassigned the space bar to be my combat button, so i could find it faster. You can even initiate combat around a corner, out of sight, then walk, and target once you can see the mobs.

Isn't it great? Plus you always get a one-round advantage to cast your buffing spells.

I can't believe how many times I stood around waiting for them to come to me or even worse, moved closer till combat initiated automatically.

Oh Yeah, all my Chicas love a chance to get Guardian Angel going right away; my Bard usually gets first move in the next round, to play Haste.
