Has anyone stopped to look at why Piranha-Bytes may left all of the developers codes and debug stuff in the game?

Like the hundreds of insert codes.
The ability to:
- Jump to any location in the game with the waypoints.
- Edit any characters or creatures stats within the game.
- Edit the Species defaults for any character or creature.
...Jump height
...Climbing defaults
...Dive time
... etc

- All of the console commands, there are about 90 of them.
- And of course all of the cheats available, Marvin, clock, garrett etc..
- Player import - export, can bee a huge cheat if you want it to be.

I mean really, has anyone ever seen a game where the developers allowed you to change the game in so many ways within the game while you were playing it?

It's a good thing they did, or I wouldn't have been able to complete Gothic.

Those cheats really increased replay value for me.

Hmm... not for me. They would if you could change the default pc_hero to another creature type. I'd like to be an Orc avatar or something. Otherwise... well, doing a Matrix like jump to the east by holding down f8 is kind of fun. Soaring over the camp... whee.... fall... splash.

'O' is always good for a laugh.

Maybe they worked till they reached the deadline and had no time left to take the cheats out.

I've been using the cheats to do unruly things since I finished Gothic about a month ago, so I guess for me it does add replay value. I didn't use the cheats at all while I was playing the first time through, I didn't even know there were any until after I finished!

Console left in games is not a new thing, all the Quake games have it and it looks like the Gothic engine is moddable as well(i.e. you can make mods with it)

So it makes sense to leave the console intact if you want the community to build mods on your game. Would be nice to get some kind of SDK or mod kit in English for that though

As for cheating, do it or not it doesn't really matter, as long as you are having fun with it feel free to cheat. There's no multiplayer so you can't hurt anyone else.

I must agree that the cheats have definately added replay value. Along with a great deal of amusement.

I LOVE the cheats! Possessing people is great. So is adding things, like putting a troll in the Old Camp castle. Of course, since the trolls can't hit back when they're being whacked, I gotta put a few more in. I usually ending up putting in 3 or 4, and in about 10 minutes they have the run of the camp And it would be cool to change your hero graphic to an orc!

Cheats are necessary in most games, either for getting past areas's that weren't debugged properly (common these days) or for difficult area's (I have a full time 50-60 hour a week job, can't spend a huge amount of time playing 100% by the rules) or I want to get somewhere that's not supported by the game.

For the most part (on the programmers side) not unusual for a FPS during the design stage. If they weren't left in, someone would have developed a trainer.

Sorry guys but I don't know what the cheats are and how to use them (except marvin). Could you tell me where to find a complete list of cheats on the internet.

These cheats made it possible for me to shoot some pics to accompany my story. That was a lot of fun for me .

...sigh, I just hope I'll actually write it , I'm known for losing interest quickly...
