We all love the game, however I think this thread was to contain the complains we had about it regardless of it being an amazing game.
There are still some major improvements to be done to it... |

All in all, I find Arx to be a great game.
On the downside, I agree with everyone else in the lack of gaining additional XP. I don;t have the best "twitch fingers" or eye-hand coordination, so being able to gain additional character levels has saved my butt more times than I care to remember
But there are many positives to this game. I love the attention to detail in the game. I kinda liked the grumbling guards (although additional randomly generated statements would have been fun). The whole food thing, while annoying at times, is very innovative and adds some life to the game. I thought the fact that you could, and were sometimes required to cook food was fun. The magic system, again taking practice to perform the runes correctly, adds some realism to the game. We are usually unable to perform anything perfectly without a little practice ( including playing RPGs!).
I volunteer to write the strategy guide for Arx II _________________ ~Ladyhawk |

Going back to what could have been improved.. |
|
In general, the interface does its job well, but IMO has some quirks:
- the inventory pop-up automaticaly happens before some activities (e.g. using the book and on few other ocassions), but it does not close automatically after those activities; worse if during the activity (e.g. when the book is open) the inventory was closed, then it will pop-up again after the activitie's end (closing the book).
I could not figure what was the purpose of this feature, but its inconsistent behaviour made the learning curve longer then needed.
EDIT: well, this whole thing happens because inventory is always visible as long as the interaction mode is on..
- It would have been nice to have descriptions hovering near the object they belong to, instead of the fixed position somewhere at the top of screen. This becomes in particular aukward when trying to mouse-over small items in the inventory at the bottom of the screen and at the same time reading the describtion at the top. This mouse-over execise is unavoidable in case of similar looking items like spell scrolls.
May be Arcane studio can attend these issues with the next patch? _________________ - Merz

i think Arx is an excellent game, especially the setting and AI. ya the story needed a little more work, but i didnt care. also the graphics are just awesome, it really makes the game immersive. |

Arx is deserves a place in the top ten best games aver, despite many flaws. Most important ones have been mentiond (lack of xp's, unbalnced advancement system). But most important to me: a most disappointing ending. The sword youve carefully crafted is useless. And those 2 rings earlier in the game were also hard-to-get but useless. Is this a bad joke, or what?
Jowood claimed a high replay value, but this is of course non-sense. hardly anyone will finish the game without walkthrough, let alone go through the many frustrating and game killing sequenses again (the lava jumping 'puzzle' ), with no hope for a great ending.
At least Iwont. Ill be waiting for arx2 (and for gothic 2 in the meantime)...
