I Lares neccesary after chapter 1? concerning the savgame DL

I really want to use JemyM's save game file but I guess there is a bug with Lares attacking. I was wondering if Lares is even needed if you train with the Dieago for str and dex. I dont want to look through the walkthrough to see because I will end up ruining the story on the way. Somebody who has finished the game is it neccesary to communicate with Lares or Rosco after chapter 1? Thanks
