Pirates!

I just read about a new Pirates! game coming out. The original game came in the late 80's and a new one is coming late this year.

Anyone of you elder gamers played the original game? We're it as big success as I've heard?

I second that, Pirates was always one of my favorites. You should try and find it, Aphazel, and give it a shot. I'm sure (although the graphics may look a bit dated) you will enjoy the game.

Wouldn't finding a 17 year old game be quite difficult to find? But I would have used the chance if I would get it.

Dont how how you would run it, its on 5 1/2" floppies!!!

If you want to play it, I would suggest just downloading WinUAE and getting the Amiga Version from http://www.back2roots.org

Pirates was the über-hit of its time. Innovative, addictive, colorful. Really a groundbreaking masterpiece by Sid Meyer.

That aside it´s a pretty simple game if you apply today´s standards. An unchanged Pirates with updated graphics would hardly be more than a casual game nowadays.
Ascaron released a 90% Pirates clone last year under the name Tortuga / Pirate Hunter. It had SRP of $25, so it should be dirt cheap by now. Reviews were quite positive if you understand we´re talking about a budget game.

Here´s one:

While you´re at it also read the Port Royal test. PR2 is in the pipeline.
Tortuga sort of recycles the PR engine. Ascaron used it to create a low budget retail product to test a few things for PR2.
