Woo Hoo !!! Arnika !!!

Well after 4 party re-configurations, my fifth one is the one I'm sticking with.

Why it always took me until the cave on Arnika road to figure out I needed to start over and make some change to my party I can't say. All I know is that 5 times through the Monastery was more then enough! Entering Arnika and seeing some new stuff was a great change.

I was worried at first I wouldn't be able to get the hang of this game (I'm new to Wizardry) but all my practice in the Monastery sure did help.

I always laugh when my Lizardman Fighter named Egg says "Bye!" to people in his dopey, vacant, burley voice.

Well done!

The good news- you settled on a party a little quicker than I did with my first winning party

The bad news- Arnika is the point where I most often restarted...

It took me repeated attempts to learn just what I could do in battle and what's the best and quickest way to win. Only experience taught me that. One thing I now always do is start off with a couple of Valkyries, then quickly turn them into Fighters on the next upgrade. Thus I'm still able to strike enemies from a distance with a spear but can now use the awesome berserk mode. Midway through the game, you'll be amazed when they hit not once but twice in one round, inflicting 60 to 70 points of damage on each hit (provided you purchase the vicious Death Spear). That's usually more damage than magic can do on any one single creature at a time.

My party has:

Egg, my lizardman warrior
Giles, my hobbit rogue
Bell, my dwarf priest
Chang, my mook psionic
Sing, my hobbit bard
Marta, my faerie mage

And I invited Vi to join me in Arnika. I have one more empty spot for another npc if I meet someone I like. I know some people think its dumb to have the maximum number of party members allowed because of the exp thing but I like full parties. I'm glad I decided to go with a bard, which I replaced my monk with. I liked having him but my bard seems very functional so I'm happy to have her.

I just wish I had more time to play. I only get the weekends to play and then I have to make time for all my other stuff too.

Right now it's my fighter and my rogue with Vi one row back in the middle because she has that really long reach with her pole arms.

I haven't quite got the hang of party formations yet.

Wooo, it looks like you could use another melee character in there somewhere. Really strong magic, though.
Good luck with it.

So I sugest to do some experiments with formations.
You will not know how important it is until you will try it yourself :].

Just pick your time carefully to experiment, to avoid a lot of reloads. Wait until you're in an area where you're comfortable (monastery, Arnika once you're a little more experienced). I made this mistake of experimenting right before a major battle with a boss monster and it definitely put me at a huge disadvantage. (I had my reasons for the timing based upon the condition of my ranger who was suffering massive penalties, but my bard was not up to the task of being a front line fighter against a boss monster without a lot more sword training.) The expression goes, live and learn, but make sure you're characters are in a likely position to live if something goes wrong.
