Vote for Fallout 2 (and for a future for good CRPGs)!

I'm quite sure I'm not supposed to do this, not as an impartial news editor at RPGDot, ehich has no special section for either games, lest I and thus we might seem to play favourites or something.

Nevertheless, I can't sit quiet here and need to speak out: Go to Gamespy's Ultimate Gaming Grudge tournament here:
http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight/matches/0212.shtml
today and vote against the Gauntlet clone that was Diablo II and for the deep, involving RPG Fallout 2!

Not everybody here might be so fond of Fallout 2, I'm aware, and some might even prefer the simple but admittedly impressive gameplay that is offered by Diablo. But this is about more than just these two games. Gamespy is one of the net's most visited gaming site and you can be certain that it is graced occasionally by some of the publisher suits we all love so much who might not know or want to know about games but who would in their own economic interest like to put an ear to the seeming (to them...) heartbeat of the gaming scene in vain hopes of catching a whiff of what those milling masses are wanting to play next.
If Fallout comes out on top of this tournament, there will be some mention on Gamespy's main page for a few days (I don't expect those corporate suits to delve deeper), and the suits will order their lackeys into their office and ask them what similar games are in their own pipeline, only to shout them out of the office once they find out there aren't any. Now if we are very lucky, one or two of those lackeys might move their sore asses to a nearby phone and call their developers to have them actually make such a game lest they face more corporate beatings.
If on the other hand Diablo wins, expect further low-quality 3D Rogue-likes to hit the streets and fail as they all do since they can't hold a candle to Diablo 2.
I'm not going to go into the future we face if Zelda, Mario or Halo were to triumph in this dumb farce of a tournament... [/url]

That really pisses me off. 4800 to diablo 2's 8000. These 2 are not comparable. One is an in-debth RPG, the other is an action game. Action games like diablo sell millions more than in bebth RPGs. Most of the people voting probably never even heard of FO2.

Thats like putting Freelancer and X2 up against each other and saying best game that is in space. Dungeon Siege vs. Diablo would have been good, or FO2 vs. Wiz 8.

I'm afraid it's really not much use. Both sides are cheating, and the D2 crowd apparently more efficiently so
If I vote and re-vote (yes, it can be done by removing the vote=1 from the adress line, reloading the site and voting again) fifty times, the D2 score magically goes up by 150. Not sure how this is done...

Bah! A huge general-purpose gaming site like Gamespy with its FPS fans (etc) was always going to have more support for the broad-market-friendly Diablo 2. As for the "suits" reading Gamespy, despite publishers love for Diablo clones, how many are successful on the PC? Sacred might have the goods but most of them fail...better to make something original.

@OctarineDragon - you're allowed to have an opinion.

Looks like we were both a little slow out of the starting gates. Oh well. Not that our two tiny votes would've made a big difference in the end!

@Lintra: I still would have liked to. It deserved my vote.

Yeah, but I figured that with all the Diablo 2 fan boys out there logging under 82 different user names to bolster the vote that my one honest one did not have much of a chance *shrug* You are right though. It would've been nice to cast my one vote. But you know what they say in Chicago? Vote early and vote often *grin*

FO2: 5836
D2: 10249

Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling someone will interpret this as having to put all our investment money in D2 clones, instead of FO2 clones, since D2 is obviously what people want!

It shouldn't be a surprise that D2 would easily beat FO2. One immensly popular and huge on-line action RPG, against an old stale RPG.

Old? Yes. Stale? I think not!

Not to mention D2 is pretty out of date itself at this time.
