Why can't I replace sound files? |
|
I'm up on Red Mountain, and the wind storm sound is really starting to drive me mad. It's that odd tone at the end of the sound that makes the looping so obvious. Anyway, after much searching, I found a pretty decent replacement that is loopable.

I renamed the new sound file and moved the old one to a backup directory. Fired up the game, but now there's no wind sound at all. Anyone know why this would be? The only difference I see is the byte size. Are there different types of wav files? Not a show-stopper, but I don't know why it wouldn't work. |

Perhaps it'll take some work in the editor rather than something so simple as replacing the actual file. |

That file is in a different, compressed format. Try loading it up in a sound editor and save it as a "Windows PCM" wav file.
You can also use winamp to convert the file to a 22KHz, 16bit, Mono PCM. (preferences->plug-ins->output->nullsoft disk writer plug-in, convert to format etc.)
Maybe then it will work.
