Pickpocketing formula, help

I have just learned pick pocket skill (hated this, but I need it to complete some quests).

I have seen two kinds of pickpocket difficulty so far.

1 Something like - it is very easy to pick pocket his purse.
Pickpocket works 100%

2 It is simple to pick pocket his purse
Doesn't work at all.

Does it have any factor of luck, I mean I can do this finally through reloading ? (though I tried many times and it didn't work)

My dex is 21. Maybe I'll need about 30 or so to be able to pick those -simple- pockets?

I am trying to get the key from Judge and he is in the category of being simple. I will never get his key, as he always catches me

I'm not sure what the formula is, but one thing I've learned is that the difficulty category of the pickpocket is not relative your current dexterity, but rather a fixed scale.

This means that "child plays", for example would mean a dex from 10-20 would work, "easy" is 20-30, "simple", 30-40, etc. Not certain that these are the exact numbers, but you get my drift.

At first, those settings threw me off because when it said it was "easy", I thought the game was dynamically determining the level based on what my current dexterity was. So I wondered why I kept getting caught trying to pickpocket Zuris when the game said it was "easy". In actually, the game is just telling you right off the bat that you need "xxxx" dexterity in order to pickpocket this person. In fact, I'm not certain that when you meet the dexterity requirements, that an element of chance is still involved. It seems to work all the time at that point.

I tihnk it would have been a bit more useful to display the pickpocket chance relative to your current dex.

Anyway, I think you need at least 30 dex to pickpocket the judge. I think I had 35 when I did it.

Ohh, that's not good. I am a warrior type. So, I invest into wep. mastery and str. I don't put any LPs into dex., only if I find some permanent +dex potions.

By the end of the game I had 121 dex. I pickpocket everybody (more for experience than for gold), and lockpicking was easy as well I couldn’t break a lock-pick even if I wanted it to.

there are 6 pocket pick levels:

1. 10-20 DEX
2. 21-49 DEX
3. 49-59 DEX
4. 59-69 DEX
5. 70-99 DEX
6. 100-120 DEX

this means with dex over 120 you can pick every pocket

for the Judge 30 Dex should be enough

(if my english is bad sorry im german)

1. First chalice from Lehmar's house is harbor district (in chest)
2. Second chalice at Gerbrandt's house (find the switch)
3. Third chalice at second house to right in upper quarter (yes, you have to find the switch)
4. Fourth from the judge's house (have fun finding the switch)
5. Fifth chalice in the house next to Salandril's house (chest)
6. Sixth chalice in 1st floor of Lord Hagen's house (nicely visible)

(and have fun finding the switches)
Well, give it a try. If it is possible, Cassia will attack you anyway because you exceeded the two-day timeline:), but run away and than return like nothing had happened - it should work.

liquid:
When I pickpocketed some people and had 30 dex, I wasn't successful. But when I raised my dex to 35 and tried again, they were easy pickpocketable.I really don't see a reason for your scale.

@z-lot
well it depends on the level of the person and also his dex this varies from person to person so thats why you can pickpocket some simple with 30 dex and other ones only with 49 dex

I haven't triggered the quest and therefore the time counter yet

I will try and find all chalises, hopefully in next chapter.

Thanks for your help.
