Old RPG's + XP?Suggestions?

Do you know perhaps some old or not so old RPG's that can be downloaded (freeware or abandonware)which will work with the XP??You see I didn't have the chance to play a lot of the old RPG's and I would like to give it a try but most of them don't work on XP or so I hear...Any suggestions or recomendations are welcome....

im sorry, but its true, i have windows xp, and almost all of my old good games dont work now. So if you can find a way to (if you have like, 40 gigabytes of computer space) then you can have windows 98 and xp on there simultaneously. use 98 for your old games, and xp for the new. You have to reboot every time you wanna switch tho.

I don't know how motivated you are about playing old games, but why not look into puchasing a really out dated box, like a P2 166 - this will run most anything before 1996/1997 - and shouldn't cost much - no more than 100USD.

Then just move your monitor and any other things you don't want to duplicate over to the box you want to use it.

Have you tried using the emulation modes built into XP? I've had varied success with them, but sometimes I can get significantly older Win 95 and even DOS games to work with it.

As I've said recently in a Linux post, maybe you can try an PC emulator and
install DOS on it.

VMWare is very easy to use, check it at http://www.vmware.com you might
have some chance.

I really want to play old games but I don't think I 'll buy the P2 because I have something like 55GB space and win98 already so I guess all I have to do is to install the 98..I tried the compatibility modes but no luck...
Thanks for the suggestions though guys...
Any good oldies to recommend?

The Underdogs is the best site for abandonware. Always updated (even if a lot of games pass from download to ISDA protection every day...). You can find here everything you need. (It have more than 2000 games (counting also the ISDA ones))

Interesting, the only game I've found that will not work in XP for me is Chessmaster. All the other old games I've tried seem to work fine. I haven't done extensive testing, however.
