Mistmare, How to cast spells?

I've just started Mistmare and I'm at the part where you're learning how to cast a spell, but I'm dammed if I can work out how to do it

I've pressed (and pressed, and pressed, and pressed) F6 - 8 but I can't see what's supposed to be happening. Am I supposed to be pointing my cursor at the tutor? What mouse button do I click?

I was entirely unable to complete the tutorial. I just left the area and went into the city to do the first mission.
Which I was entirely unable to complete because I couldnt find the persons house.
So what Im telling you is I have no idea. good luck though.

I did have success in lifting weights until I got stronger though.
