My upgrade experience

I have a PIII 800, 256mbRam, and GeForce2.

The game was practically unplayable even after pushing all settings to minimum, closing out background programs, and all the other great advice I received. I decided to upgrade my video card to a GeForce4.

The difference is simply amazing! The graphics (including the water effects) are outstanding and, of course, my fps went up substantially. I am amazed at how much difference there is.

I am still experiencing an occasional, inexplicable pause in play that can be very frustrating. This only happens outdoors. Indoors, play is extremely enjoyable and flows perfectly. Makes me want to find every dungeon and cave out there. Will upgrading my RAM solve this one issue?

That inexplicable pause is the game loading new textures. It will happen no matter what your setup is.

With quicker harddisk/cpu it will those pauses will be probably little smaller.
Defragmenation will also help (depending on how much fragmented currently your harddisk is).

morrowind is very playable on a geforce2....

My setup is a 1.4ghz, 192mb RAM, geforce 256

The graphics are stunning nonetheless, though I am sure I am missing some things. Playing at 1024x768 res

The key is you MUST have the latest drivers for your video card. The ones that came with it originially are not good enough.

Go to nvidia's website and get the detonator drivers. These will chug out performance admirably.
