WOW! I've found this old (very old) game in one of my drawer! Sweet memories...
What do you think about it?
I've played it years and years, virtually neverending story |

Without a doubt Darklands is one of the most ambitious RPGs ever made. I mean, where could you start. The origin of the real-time/ pause system. The cool character creation, the amazing setting, the open-ended nature of the game, the weapon and armor system, the interesting twist on magic in the alchemy and saints system, and lots more. It is a pity that it suffered from bugs and never really did as well as it should of. |

Don't forget the character creation!! One of the best I ever seen!
You can choose a lot of careers and every 5 years it's possible to upgrade it in more important position (novice monk - monk - abate)(soldier - veteran - captain)

I have never tried the game before. When was it made? _________________ =Farseer=

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate? |

That's very old indeed. The oldest RPG game I tried came out in 1993. _________________ =Farseer=

The version I have is sooo old it is actually on 5.25" floppies - a LOT of them! Of course I also have it on 3.5" disks (my PC at the time was having problems w/ the 3.5" drive, so I got them copied onto the 5.25" so I could use that drive).
This was a great game! I spent wayyyy to much of my life playing it. I would love to see an upgrade ... I wish I could progam well enough to start a project like that. |

Did you ever finish the main quest? I recall deciding to do so...but I believe there was some critical event that only happened twice a year or so, and I kept missing it. Too much beer caused me to lose track of the time.
Enjoyed the rest of the game though. I must have spent at least 6 months (in real life time) with the same party. My (now ex) wife at the time was *not* happy! |

The main quest involved a dragon, the Templars, trip to an alternate plane (hell?) and big boss fight (?). I know this only from the few snippets my brother threw at me, and those were a decade ago. He never elaborated as he did not want to spoil it for me. |

i remember that if you searched on the bulletin board in the cities somethimes they give you info about the movement of a dragon (north/north-west...)and you had to make trips from city to city following the direction. One time a catched one. AND HE/SHE KILLED ALL MY PARTY!!!!! _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

Maybe the dragon was not part of the main quest...Maybe it was just a scripted side event...I am not sure. It was a long, long time ago.
However, I will check with my brother and see what he remembers. |
