HoMM 5 And M&M Product Officially Mentioned

GameIndustry.biz is quoting a press release from UbiSoft in which the company officially mentions 'Heroes of Might & Magic V' and a "Product with Might & Magic brand - PC".
The latter might unfortunately not be a new RPG as the press release also states "...and reinforce its presence in the strategy segment with two games under the Might & Magic brand.".
Well, or maybe they just thought it's "uncool" to even mention RPG since our beloved genre has not exactly had any real highlights as of late(?).
Whatever, it's good to see an official mention of 'Heroes of Might & Magic V' and it looks like we just need to let them surprise us with what that other project is (unless it's the Asia-exclusive 'Heroes of Might & Magic Online', of course).
Thanks, Blue's.

The state of the genre

Pretty much have to agree, except for the HUGE hits of KOTOR 1 and 2. Nice single-player RPG's that are fun and popular, not just because of the license. I hope companies are looking at the sales of those two games (not sure how PC version stacks up to X-box) and have new plans in the works for copycats and clones, pun intended.

Gothic III is coming sometime, and Bethesda's doing Oblivion and eventually Fallout 3, so maybe we're on the start of an upswing.

Meanwhile, I'm in the middle of playing Wizardry 8 for the umpteenth time.

I am currently playing World of Xeen, only the first time for me though.

Wizardry 8 was great the first time through. I might consider playing that again the way things are going for this genre.
