| It crashes on launching, something to do with the D3D accele |

Hey,
Im getting realy frustrated with this game, whenever i try to run it, it immediately crashes. It has something to do with the D3D accelerator. For one i dont know what type i have, maybe aztec? So maybe you could tell me how to check. I have about a gig free of hard drive space, directX8.1, win 2000, pentium II above 400 Mhz, 130 mb ram, and a 4x CD-rom. So i need to know how to check what type of graphic card i have and whether or not aztec? works with this game, and if it doesnt, does this mean i have to invest in another graphics card, that could possibly cost more than the game itself? Does anyone see my reasoning here? anyway, i would really appreciate any help.

i found dxdiag and i know how to find all my system info. Now the problem seems to be that this system is running on win 95, is there an easy way to upgrade to 2000? Also my grapics card is Matrox MGA g200 AGP and the chip type is MGA g200 rev. If that helps in analyzing the problem. So i dont know if gothic is supported under that video driver. I tried to delete te opening logo scene, but the menu never shows up, all i can do is hear the sounds, so its obviously a video thing, do you hae any suggestions to fix this?

From reading the official FAG for Gothic, I noticed it stated that there were "slight performance problems" with a Matrox G200 card.
It recommends heading over to Matrox's site and downloading the latest drivers for your video card.
Gothic will run on Windows 95/98/ME/XP/2000 so it shouldn't be a problem what OS you have.
If you do choose to upgrade, then yes 99% of the video cards out there are going to cost more than just this one game. But, if you upgrade to a higher quality card, then you'll be set for a long time before you'll be forced to upgrade again. |

ok, i tried to download the latest driver upgrades and i tried to run the program, it still doesnt work. I ran DXdiag to make sure i have the right card, and that i do have d3d compatability: i do. i changed the screen size appropriately and i deleted the opening logo scene. All to no avail, i get a message stating: "D: Direct3D Renderer: Direct3D Device does not support all required features. Terminating now. Log X: XD3D_Test Capabilities: D3D Texopcaps_ADD not supported." So what does all this mean? and how can i fix it?

I don't really know...
The FAQ states slight problems with your card, perhaps that is an understatment.
The only troubleshooting that I can recommend is that you make sure you have the latest drivers downloaded and installed on your system, and that you do not have the 1.08k Gothic patch installed on your computer. |
