Gothic is a gem of a bargain bin score for me, tho I must admit at first I was about to toss the disk out my window! Time is valuable and Im not wasting it on some sub-par POS, so Im fairly cranky when a game comes across bad upon first play. The manual is pretty vague, and the inventory system confusing at first. Also, the controls were horrible. Alas, I was reassured when I simply reconfigure to my liking, to incorporate the mouse for looking and directional. jumping and attacking, and the keys for the rest. Non reconfigurable controls will fast kill a game for me, Im very set in my ways. Thus was the quick death of Summoner. After cranking the rez up to 1024 32 bit, I was starting to see the potential of this otherwise initially unimpressive and frustrating game.

As for the personality in the game, thats obvious from the first time i drew my weapon on a local, just to have them draw their own and warn me. Never one to pass up the chance to observe a games death animations on the first play or two, I found that to my delight my new toon was struck down immediately and in a most brutal fashion. They even went thru my pockets! Love it, this is the beginning of a wonderful relationship. I like the jumping distance too, can really get some air.

lol, Sam you have sooooo much fun ahead of you. And you are 100% right about the first part of your post, the default configurations are horrible but one can tell just from the initial 5 -10 min of gameplay that this game has mucho potential, so you reconfigure as much as possible and forge ahead.
When I played the demo I think I played it for about 6hrs of total gametime before I realized how to move items from player to vendor and back.
