I noticed something unusual the first time I played through this game, and only remembered it the other day. As you know, there were 13 magicians that created the barrier. Now, here's a list of the mages in the colony, excluding the ones from the Brotherhood, of course, because they didn't exist at the time.

CIRCLE OF WATER:
Saturas
Cronos
Nefarius
Riordian
Myxir
Merdarion

CIRCLE OF FIRE:
Corristo
Damarak
Drago
Torrez
Rodriguez
Milten

OTHER:
Xardas

That's all thirteen, right? Right?
Wrong.
As you will remember, Milten said that Corristo let him join after he did a great service to the camp. But, as "Old Camp" did not exist before the creation of the barrier, that removes him from the list of the 13 who created it. He also said, upon delivering the letter, that Xardas used to be a servant of Innos. I thought at the time, "Alright... so Xardas was the twelfth mage." This was my first time playing through the game. When I told Saturas of the Circle of Fire's untimely demise, I was quite baffled to hear him say Xardas the the THIRTEENTH magician. So.... with Xardas, the six from the circle of Water, and the fire mages minus Milten... that's twelve in all. There is one missing from the circle of fire.

So, is Saturas just a senile old man who miscounted the mages? Or did something happen to the sixth member of the original circle of fire? If you go with the latter, what do you think happened? Was he the one Diego spoke of who tried to walk out of the barrier? Was he murdered by the convicts in the overthrow of the castle in the Old Camp? Did he flee to the Sect camp and teach the gurus magic? (Hey, it would explain Pyrokinesis.) You decide...

Milten joined the Circel of Fire as the sixth fire mage.
So he takes the position of the previously sixth fire mage whos name is not mentioned in the game.

I kinda think that Y'Berian was the sixth fire mage. He like Xardas thought there was a better way to get out of the barrior.

Just guessing of course.

@Ariakas,

One can think so, but he's not.
In fact the 'old sixth fire mage' has no
specific role in the Gothic story papers.
So there was no reason to give him an name.

It is probably Y'berion, because he knows circle 4 and trained the other Guru's.

To be honest I think they forgot about the fact that Milton joined afterwards, and therefore he is one of the 13 without actually being one of the 13.

Remember, the 13 wasn't split into "fire" or "water" when Xardas led them.. they were only "magicians" before they split up - Xardas was the leader of both Saturas and Corristo (+the others of course).
