What sound format are the music files in?

What sound format are the music files in?

No matter what I do I can't find a codec to play the .dls music files in gothic 2. What format are they?

you need DirectMusic Producer http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=07f29ce2-1c03-4aef-b5b0-cbdaf07af08d&DisplayLang=en to play the .dls music files. Use a simple sound recorder to compress the songs in mp3's (e.g. total recorder).

i've been told to do this:

file -> new -> File Types: Projekt -> ok -> ok -> right click "Projekt" (left window) -> insert files -> search folder "gothic 2 -> work -> data -> music -> newworld" -> select all -> open -> select the song in the left window -> play with "alt+<" (or click "play")

BUT,

How do i play individual songs? I mean if i click play the entire track starts playing. Also, there's this weird drumb beat every fews seconds that plays during the song
