I thought I'd share this with everyone. It's and editorial I found on the Player 2 Player web site (www.player2player.net). If you're interested in MMORPGs, it's a very good read about why they are so popular, and why people are so passionate about them. Here's an excerpt, and then the link to the story (a long read mind you):
It's biggest complaint, the 'levelling treadmill', as justified as people may be in complaining about it, was the very reason people subjected themselves to hours of working together with other people to avoid as much as possible. It was also one of the biggest filters for various groups as they organised, often sorting people into categories which reflected their relationship to that treadmill. People who understood and wanted to aggresively attack the treadmill often came together really quickly in the game, while those on the opposite side of the fence often coagulated together at some point in a more socially fulfilling type of guild.

Agree or not, it's still a great piece of editorial, in my opinion. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=
