I started with 6, but now I've played them over and over until I finished with a level 1, solo-Troll.

Several others in the 3DO-community have the same thing.

Might and Magic 2 on the Amiga. Played for god knows how long, simply levelling characters and finding items. Got to some ludicrasly high level (500+ I think), but never finished the bloody thing. Have played them all (to a lesser extent) since. Looking forward to the new one....

m@m 2, The dragon cave were awesome. Then one had to defeat the cusinarts and it was all over. Everytime you defeated them you got a plus 20 item, it was great.

My first M&M was III:Isles of Terra. I still have fond memories of that game. I played 4 and 5. I was psyched about 6 and played that one. I played 7 for a little while and stopped...it didn't look as nice to me as 6. I didn't even touch 8 because it was the same old stuff again. The only ones I played to completion are 3, 4, and 5.

Even better, I just used to keep going back to the oasis, and fighting Timelords. Seriously long battles, but tons of decent gear at the end of it....

MM6 was the worst of the bunch. It completely changed the feel of the M&M series. It really became a 'hack n slash' rpg with hoards of monsters. WoX was the best M&M in the series. Somehow I doubt any new M&M games will capture the essence of what the M&M series use to be (pre MM6).

Mine was MM III, and it's also the one of which I have the fondest memories. And also some bad memories, since it's the only RPG ever I needed to get hints for (those riddles really were something !). My next favorite is probably 7, since it had a great storyline and also introduced a better promotion/skill system, compared to number 6.
The "next generation" of mm games (6+) did have a big flaw in my opinion, namely that the games got really boring at later levels. Anyone who has played the games will probably know the following routine by heart : set lloyds beacon in front of the cheapest temple, go to a high level monster infested area (dragonsand, etc), set second beacon, kill as many creatures as possible untill almost dead, recall beacon to temple, get cheap healing, return, etc, etc, etc.

Mine was Gates to another world, on the Sega Genesis. I spent many hours in front of the tv on that one. I would have to say M&M7 Mandate of heaven is my favorite.

The first I completed was MM4. Never finished 3, I couldn't solve some of the riddles, got frustrated and quit.

Of the recent releases 7 was probably the best, although not my favorite.

The one that I remember with the greatest fondness was 6. Finishing some of those dungeons left me with a feeling of real accomplishment, it did not start to feel like work until the last couple of days of playing .... seeing as how it took me six weeks, this is saying a lot!!

My fondest memory: I was leaving the first temple of Baa (the one near Ironfist Castle) after cleaning it out, every one in the party had a sliver of red for health, when this really cool music (reminded me of hearing the choir in Kings College practice) cuts in as I am running back to Ironfist Castle...I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

I did not like 8 - it was too much the same, too short and too easy. The idea of playing the bad guys was cool, but the game just did not do it for me.

Yes, Mandate was the first game I bought when I got my first computer, I never went back to console games after that. I am ver happy with the games on pc.

The second and third games were X-com Apocalypse, and Star Control 3. How I wish those two games were still being made.

Might and Magic 3 was the first one I played and remains the one I have played the most.I found 4&5 a little disapointing and too easily finished but still generally enjoyable.

If I'm honest and try and ignore the warm nostalgic glow that surrounds 3 I might be persuaded to acknowledge M&M6 as the best of the lot( so far?).M&M7 was also an excellent game but I thought the formula was wearing a little thin by M&M8.
