I don't know, but I hope it is rated M. I am tired of games geared toward kids. Of course, I am an old guy now. Would an M rating really prevent you from buying it?

That is what crossed my mind as well
I'm 14 as well, and I own countless M-rated games from Halo to Hitman

Who doesn't?

Well, if Gothic gets M-rated, I don't really care. If I can't buy it in the shop, my mother will.

The first was rated Teen, I really doubt they would change that.

Yeah Who Cares About Ratings. I started to laugh when I saw at the back of my Bladu'rs gate and it says Rated teen (13+) for Animated Blood, Mild language, Use of Alcohol. Use of alchohol thats funny.

To protect the game developers from lawsuits regarding youths with little to no selfesteem/willpower being influenced into doing things based on their experiences with the game.

Beyond that, you have to take it up with the ratings association (ie: government) if you feel that a game has warped you in some way or another...

bye

If you can suit(sp?) a tobacco-company when you get cancer from smoking, or a fastfood-chain when getting fat, what prevents you from suit a game-developer when loosing sleep -> going insane bacause of a horrorgame? But I suspect that Gothic2, being developed in Germany wich have some of the hardest restrictions in censorship, will keep a rather low profile at release. Probably thereīll be patches out pretty quick to add more blood, gore and violence, if people think itīs too soft when released.

The reason why those people were able to sue the tobacco companies was because they were lied to long before it was known that cigarettes could cause cancer. There was a time when the industry claimed that cigarettes were not bad for your health.

The lawsuits against the fast food chains stemed from the fact that the restaurants lied to the public about the contents of their food on some level or another. Causing people to believe they were eating a certain amount of badfood, when truthfully they were eating even more.

Regarding censorship, Gothic, in the US was censored in respect to the bikini chick in Gomez's palace. In Europe there was no such texture to hide her body. I always thought the rating on Gothic was incorrect. It had a solid amount of violence, farely brutal death blows with the whole impale/twist/die movement along with all the profanity in the game. I thought it should have been M from the beginning.
