Hi, I am new here (and new in Gothic also ).
So my first question here is this: which camp a should choose? Are there any differences? (for example will I play as figther in one camp and as magician in other?)?

Thanks

It is an RPing choice, here is what you could expect:

New Camp
- ideal camp for the story
- learn magic late-game
- learn crossbow late-game

Old Camp
- learn magic mid-game
- learn crossbow mid-game

Brotherhood
- learn magic early-game
- learn crossbow late-game
- can't get past circle 4 in magic

Well apart from the obvious points u get different missions to perform, but the best way is to stick with diego and build up your strength and dexterity then when u do the stuff needed to get into the old camp good books, you can either choose to accept that or try the other 2 camps that way you pick up alot of XP for you character

It means that if I choose New camp I will be able to use magic in later parts of games?
And what does it mean, that in Brotherhood I will not be able to get past circle 4? What is this circle?

Thanks

Ok magic stuff time..

You can use Scrolls anytime without knowing magic, but the runes as you will see will say something like

Circle : 4
Damage : 20,etc

That means you must have a knowledge of the fourth circle of magic, one of the mages will teach you a circle from 1 upwards...

New camp will teach upto 5
Sect camp will teach upto 4

It goes upto 6 but only one person will teach you that...

So lets say you have been taught to Circle 3 then you can use runes with circle needs of 1,2 and 3 but not 4,5,6... you get the idea

----------
I would consider Old Camp to be the ideal for the story, since Diego is the only one you can trust in the beginning.

-------
Brotherhood or New Camp is not reccomended to play a mage.
Brotherhood mage cannot beat the game with magic (must use melee)
New Camp mage cannot start studying magic until much later in the game.

Also, Magic does NOT suck. Its VERY powerful past level 4. What a Warrior does in blood sweat and tears, a mage do in quick waves with his hands from a safe distance. The end struggle as a mage was ridicilous, it was easier than it was with a Fighter with 210 strength masterized in 2h weapons!

Also, Magic is more fun. Its difficult at start, but once you pass a certain step, it makes you very powerful (like in all RPG's).

I have personally beaten the game as both mage and warrior so far. Ranger is up next.

Best Regards

Isn't there a way to switch from the sectcamp
to the *spoiler*camp later in the game?

There are rumours that you can hijack a bug to be able to change camps from Old Camp to SECT camp later on... But that one is still unconfirmed.

No words about changing camps from Sect Camp thou.
