@Graham 2,

Yes, we have to tread carefully here, kill NOBODY unless you really have to,
even then, you may have "spoiled" it.
I may be tempted to "tag-along" in the game with Killerofevils II, why not? two heads are better than one, or even players as you Graham 2, the more ideas to reflect what Wolverine_men suggests might just work, - - - the free mine? the later or earlier visit? - - who knows at what point the "old man" may be enabled? - - could we "not" kill anyone till that moment? - - i dont know, we will see?

Well Wulf here is where I am:
I am joining the Old Camp and have not pissed anyone off, paying protection money, did fingers, sly and whistler quest so far and have not talked to any Baals (including Parvez) or rogues and mercenaries and am just hunting scavengers, molerats and bloodflys in order to train to beat Kharim in a arena duel. I'm sure I have not violated anything yet but who knows got to wait till later

@KillerofevilsII,

That is one mean looking avatar,

All being well, i am running my game side by side with yours (or near as poss')
To impress Scatty, i let Kharim beat me (after first dropping my ore in the side room) I never could find any difference between Diego saying "i'm impressed"
or "really impressed", i too am doing things carefully as Diago tells me.
It will do no harm if Mud latches-on, just go outside the camp near to some
monster/beast and let him run away like mad, then carry on with what your doing, he will of course latch-on again, (but its been known for him to die) thats not your fault? (very handy)
I'm off to the old mine to get Ian's list (then straight back to Diego)
I gave Graham 20ore for the map (even though Diego says "he will give you a map") - - (no provocation)
I keep on thinking, about Goraths later comment "it's in the international version" - - - i am led' to believe my 1.08j ver' has the patch in it, but no, it cannot be? - - can it?
I will NOT kill one human/npc, ever, i will run away or reload a saved game.
I will "lock-away" at certain strategic points, saved games (not to use) unless some thing goes wrong.

just a tought but if you join the old camp you may have to do the chromanin quest in chapter 3 before you get thrown out of the old camp.

Yes Graham 2,

That is indeed a pivotal point in the game and a perm' save should be made
to save restarting all over. thanks for any ideas, could this thing work?

P.S I have thought about, book 1 = ch/1, book 2 = ch/2, etc' ?

Well Wulf the avatar is from Final Fantasy VII which I still play cause its awesome and the char is Barret and his awesome and of course his mean his tough Ok Wulf I just joined the Old Camp, to impress Scatty I just got beat, havent kill anyone, lv7 from hunting and the quests to join the Old Camp and if that ch1=book1 thing is true how the hell we get the book1 in chapter 1? Seems impossible without cheating or beating someone1 up. I also got 400 ore (ore is scarce to me now since I can't go to the other camps yet) by leading orcs to Pacho and the two guards by Gilbert and looting them after orcs killed them it was also pretty funny Hope I haven't spoiled anything yet

@KillerofevilsII,

Yeah, i thought his face rang a bell, Barret (with the machine gun hand)!
Level 7, same here, you would be o.k going to the old and new camps as long as you don't join them.
you can get the book in ch/1, hard but can be done, you can always run, takes some controlling, but those skell's will run out of the tower and be after you, go into the water, thay can't swim, (dont rush into ch/2 when talking to Lester) get as much strength, and some dex' but only for hunting, I'm on 35/25 st/dex, armor 40, got all hunting skills first task, so to sell stuff for lots of ore.
I also have not killed, or stolen, just to be safe. Mud is hard to shake off this time, i lure him near to monsters but when he sprints away he stops in the distance and watches me then comes back after a while, wierd, never done that before {could be a good sign) (secret game trigger?) also i triggered Jacko (in the cave near lake) the ran away while he shot arrows (another secret trigger)?
by doing this the "being-good" triggers are getting enabled!
About the two guards, i personally would not have done that on this "special" quest? can you not go back?
I know my 1.08j game can produce the old man, did you say yours was a
1.08k? - - - it might do it ?
Mess the game up now by stealing, killing, provocation, bullying, bad attitude who knows, dont spoil it.

2 thoughts I have just had and I am somewhat inhibrieted at the moment so they might not be worth much but here goes.

1. About doing what Diego tells you to do annd stealing the recipie from cor colam upon completion Diego says that hi is very impressed that you managed to do it, which made me think that it might have be a "Trigger" for the old man to appear

2. The path of riteous, the reprasentatives of innos are deemed to be riteous so it may be necassary to become a fire mage as aposed to a guard.

Thats all I can think of for now, hope it helps and good look.

Hey Graham2,

Stay sober cos we need some deep wisdom on this.

@1. Sorry, no stealing ("denounce all depravity") i got the o.k off Diego without
the Fletcher quest, (see how easy it is to wander off "the path")
I did Sly,whistler,Scatty,Fingers & Thorus. (Thorus said "I would have killed the guy" (Mordrag) - - see, theres lots of "pitfalls" if you'r not carefull.
@2. When i saw the old man, i had joined the old camp, so that must be the safest bet.

@KillerofevilsII, your right about the getting the book n.1 in ch/1- its too hard, come to think of it, if your in ch/2 then get the n.1 book and read it, then book n.2 will be inserted still in ch/2, then read book n.2 in ch/3 to get n.3 etc' ??

I did not bother going to the sect camp at all before Gomez said "your in"
but then when i did, as soon as i spoke to Lester, chapter 2 sequence started,
so i've stayed in ch/1 to build up as much strength+dex, 10% 1h-sword and
30% bow for now.
I doubt if this thing is going to work, but best to have tried and lost than never tried at all.

Well Wulf I lose Mud all the time without trying (guess im gifted ) and no I'm still in chapter 1 and the skeleton mage would be impossible to kill in ch1 or 2 because it's hard to do damage to with with a battle sword plus the other skeletons so it might have to wait a bit and leading orcs to Packo and the two guards can't have spoiled it because the trigger "snaps" or whatever if you do it right? Well let's keep going and see what happens soon I'll be ready for chapter 2 and now I'm lv10 but instead of killing Nyras I should just beat him and up same with the Baal in the Orc Cemetery right? So far so good...

Well, there is no "set" answer to this, and you are doing this "experiment" your own way, and i am doing it my way.
The Baal in orc/cem' is a storyline quest, must be o.k - - i'm going slow at the moment, i dont want to miss anything, also i am "thinking"
Graham 2 makes a serious point, re:-(ch/3)? it would be more "legitimate"
killing any guards then, as they become opponents? - - you may well have spoiled it (unknowingly) who knows? - - i havn't killed a soul (yet) or been aggressive to anyone, then i will know - - should i see the old man, that it is as Wolverine_men says.
I am also playing another game at the same time (Beyond-Divinity) so i think you may well race ahead but i'll catch up if required.
Still on L/7, got the almanac off the black goblins, i know its a quest item for the invocation, but it could be a trigger, the words have similar "tones" also kept the pipe (i think its the old man's) why should it be near the almanac?
Mud has gone, he fell over a cliff, good, that wasn't my fault (i hope)
Yeah, skeletons after ch/3 might be a good idea? - - don't forget "be good"

It is possible to get book 1 in chapter 1 because I have done it before, get to level 13 ish with mastered 1 handed sword and a good amount of str and just be patient and lure skeletons back to the spiral stairs, then most of them get stuck on the lower level and 1 skeleton runs up, save it a lot and you should be ok.

Well Wulf I don't play Gothic much anymore either, I just got Baldur's Gate 2 Dark Alliance, and alot of other games so Gothic is going slow aswell. So I should get the book at what point? When I'm banished or what?

Just been doing some swatting-up,
Again, Graham has a point, of course the skeletons in the fog tower can be seen-off in ch/1, i have also done that before, "stretching" ch/1 is a good idea,
(max levels) sword and bow skills high as poss'.
Talking to Lester gets into ch/2 and talking to cor kalom, set you on the "focus" trail, Nyras must be "beaten" but not killed, and you must "steal" the first focus back.
Making a perm'/save at this ch/2 point is good.
According to Gorath's focus map, he uses the word "linked" (between the stranger and the focus quests), see here:-

http://gothic.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10062&game=gothic&l1=Maps&infoID=73

Chapter 2 sounds a good bet to get the first book, then to delay getting the second, (kind of finding it naturally) "on your travels" ?

Baldurs gate was one of my most enjoyed games, never did the follow-on's
though, they just get better and better.
Having to start from an early save/game, made a "mess" with Gomez, i actually joined-up with him !! - - what was i thinking of.
I'm staying with this, to the end, one last time?
