What about Pixel-Shaders?

Well I'm from Germany and I bought the game about a week ago. I had to buy the American version because the localisation will take about 1/2 year. Then I'll be able to give the American game back tó the store where I bought it and get the German version! ...
However here's my problem:

I got an Athlon XP 1800+
256MBDDR Ram and a
Radeon8500 (built by ATI) 64DDR !

The game (I didnt play it for a long while) doesnt really stutter but I had to reduce the view distance and the shadows to make it working properly.

If I activate the PIXEL SHADERS (which are supported by my graphics card!) the game freezes right at the beginning, when I want to leave the galleon!
Is there anyone who knows how to solve my probs?!

Thanx!

THIS IS WHY THEY ARE NEVER GOING TO FIX THIS GAME!! To many of you defend it like its your ******* life. Yes this game will play and is playable. But like i have said over and over and over. The stuttering and frame rate jumping all over the place gives you a headache after a while. Youre full of **** if you sit there and say it plays perfectly smooth. I have run this game on almost every video card in existence and i get the same crappy buggy gameplay. I agree completely with you on this problem. And here are my best comp specs.. Athlon 2100xp ..Geforce4 ti4600.. 512mbddr ...

Mamovaka you are absolutely right about people not noticing choppiness in games. Its very wierd. I know a few people who play games choppy and crappy and dont notice anything. Shakes head in confusion.

I find the framerate quite ok, it's not the fastest game ever though, but it's liveable.

But the thing that makes me wanna scream out after a while and that makes me wanna break the game cd in thousands of pieces and tear out all my hair it the stopping to load scenery thing, suddenly , like every 100 feet or so you walk outside it stops to load, sometimes there's a progress bar loading sometimes not, is it this you refer to as stuttering or the generally random drop in framerate?

I think the stopping to load scenery bit is by far the most annoying thing in the game and it makes me wanna curl up into a ball and cry sometimes

Yes I run it without safedisk, I run minimal amounts of programs in the bg, it happens whether I have it set on full detail/view and all that or low!

And it's just about exactly the same on 2 completely different pcs one with a celeron 500 and a slow 5400RPM udma33 hdd the other an athlon xp 1700+ with a WD 7200rpm udma 100 hdd...

I guess it's when the game loads new cells, but it still makes me insane!

They announced they were working on a patch weeks ago.

Yes a patch. The patch could be for anything. I hope it can fix this game because it is one of my favorite of all time. But just because they are working on a patch and release it doesnt mean anything.

I've warned you to tone down your language Lordr31z, and now you get an official warning.

I'm one of these people and I do notice it... just I guess we're not comming from the same place. I'm not looking for the game to be 'real' as in like tv or a movie... hmm this is hard to explain. I guess the best example I can give is like how I still really like the EGA graphics for the old sierra games becuase they give them a kind of story book feel and even tho you would think that distances you from the game it doesn't, it kind of kicks in your own imagination... or something

Heres my specs. AMD Athlon 1.2gig, 384mb RAM, Geforce4 MX440 overclocked to/past a G4 Ti4600 (core = 290 memory = 500, though doesnt have pixel shading feature) I have the Geforce tweak utiltiy, with 'quality' settings, such as texture is highest/sharpest quality, but FSAA is OFF. 1152x864 resolution. With view distance to 50-60% I get about 15 FPS average in cities, and 30-40 frames indoors. The Unreal (tournament) engine can render an indoor setting identicle to Morrowind with graphics set to max and get 60-90 framerates(on my comp anyway). Im not getting any of these 'stuttering' problems people are talking about, well, the only thing I can relate it to is when ive been running for a while outdoors and it stops for a second, then comes back without a "LOADING" sign ever coming up. This personally does not bother me, as it only happens when running long distances and doesnt happen enough to agitate me, as its only there for a second. The game loads pretty fast in general methinks. But yeah Morrowind does have some graphic issues which will hopefull be fixed in the next patch. I have the NO-CD patch for my copy.
