Gothic 2 Engine.

Just wondering, is the Gothic 2 engine related to the Ultima 9 engine in any way? It might seem abit wierd of a question to some but If you've played Ultima 9 then you probly notice the similarities. Kinda like how Arx Fatalis looked like the Thief 1/2 engine.

Oh yeah, and for me, Gothic 2 seems to crash just as much as Ultima 9 (Which didn't crash as much for me as _most_ people ;p )
I'm just loving it tho, this is what I wanted Ultima 9 to be more like .

The comparison to Ultima 9 isnīt strange. One of the German print mags wrote in their Gothic 1 review something like 'Gothic is the game Ultima 9 could have been!'. U9 came out earlier than Gothic. Itīs still the only similar RPG to the Gothics, so Iīm pretty sure Piranha Bytes examined it carefully. Both Gothics use the same self-developed engine.
Arx is an homage to Ultima Underworld. Arkane also built their own engine.

No way it could be.
For one the tech of ultima 9 wasn't nearly as far as gothic II.
in terms of reflective surfaces, etc.

And Arx fatalis didn't use the thief engine.

No, there's no connection between the U9 and the Gothic engine at all. The Gothic engine is basically coded by Piranha because purchasing one would have been way pricier. Gothic II uses an upgraded version of said engine.

Well ever since I saw the box art in a store I thought "Ultima 9 re-release?" and when I saw it being played on the computers in the store I thought "Ultima 9 Engine?" then when I played it at home I thought "Bliss..." Always thought that Ultima 9 was agreat looking game, liked the magic in it altho combat was extremely boring in it. This game just brings a tear to my eye in a way
