everything I've read both here & in JemyM's FAQ suggests that pickpocketing in Gothic is useless because you can always just beat the bloke up IF you're stronger.
but what if it's fairly early on in the game & you really wouldn't mind having Scar's weapons?
I haven't invested any skill points but can you pickpocket someone's weapon and which controls do you use to try and Pickpocket someone?

I do not think it is useful, because it is also very difficult to pickopocket someone.

There is another issue - some of the characters can not be pickpocketed at all - they are immune. I am not sure (perhaps somebody else knows a full list) but I found no named npc that could be pickpocketed at all.

the points are very valuable at the start fro working your strng and sword skills, dont spend all those skill points on crappy pickpocketing, if you spent all the skill points u were saving for pickpocket, on strength and 1 handed swords, you would already have reached the stage where your tough enough to just beat them up any way. |

RingWrath is right: u should keep those skill points and use them to impove your strength and 1h sword skills. Then when you are storng enough you can beat the crap out of anyone and get their stuff, without having to kill them, I suggest you beat Jackal: he has a great Crossbow and he is fairly easy to beat if u take him by surprise. |

Hey gang,
Thanks for the info. It's pretty much what I expected but just wanted further information. Don't worry, I haven't used any skill on pickpocketing, was just curious.
I also appreciate the tip about Jackal. |

For what it's worth... you go into sneak and then just approach them the same way you would if you were going to talk to them (from behind of course ).
It is useless, though, I reloaded from an earlier game once I realized that you can't steal from any of the juicier NPC's or steal anything that the NPC has equiped. That means no weapons, so, no point.
