| Do I HAVE to...? (Legion Quest Question) |

Well, the situation is this, my Imperial Legion character likes to practice her speechcraft because she's not really good in this skill. Now she actually managed to admire this Varus guy in Ebonheart into being a 100%er, more by accident than anything else (she has a few other 100%ers, but she actually *did* something to achieve this).
Now I heard that she'll have to duel the guy sooner or later :/. Is that mandatory/obligatory or just a voluntary thing?

Varus?; IIRC, yes, it's mandatory to duel that guy at Arena (Vivec), since he will refuse to surerender his title to you.

Eh? he refuse to surrender the title & you refuse to take the title? Well then there will be no conflict, and you won't to become a top guy in Imperial Legion. I not sure whether it will affect you at later stage in main quest or not, such as become Hortator for all the Great Houses. However you could always return to finish this quest if you can't proceed because of it.

Well, yes, it worked: I didn't demand his title and he didn't challenge me to a duel. Right now I'm pretty content with not being top dog in Vvardenfell district's legion  . Doesn't seem to be tied into the main plot at all.
