Taking it All

EverythingXen, you talked about the looting and beating of others. This is my first time playing and I hesitate to Kill them or even hit them until I am sure I don't need them for something. Is it fair to say I can beat them up and rob them blind and still finish the game, naturally I know I shouldn't do that with certain NPC's but the smaller guys. I'm in chapter four now, (had to start over already) and am on my way to find Xardus (again!!!) Thanks for any ideas.

You can beat anyone you want up... just don't kill them. Though plot importantl people are 'immortal' so you can't screw up easily.

You have to be fast, though, the guards will happily shoot you dead if you do it within sight of one. Which I solved by taking all the guards weapons, of course. But you have to be fairly tough for that (level 12+).

When I play I usually spend points on lock picking. I know it's useless if you just find the combo and reload the game but I'm too impatiant. Looting all the chest in the old camp is a piece of cake and you can do it early in the game. Sometimes sneaking is helpful with this or just speed at getting all the items out of the chests.

Hm... I didn't say you'd find out what he did but you'll be a little wiser about what he is.

Yo Xen I think you hit the nail right on the head.
Its a prison setting and you are one of them(a prisoner), so its like: survival of the fittest.
I wasnt ast ruthless as you were (well, ok I was but I saved the game first then beat the hell out of them and looted to see if I could do it and get away with it first) but all the time I was playing my mindset was "I dont trust one of these thugs as far as I can throw them" so stealing and the looting and beat downs didnt give me such a guilty feeling in Gothic 1 lol

Looting and Robing

Thanks for the tips. First timers are a little nervous about messing up later chapters. I have been robing all chests and now I think I'll get just a little more agressive about getting what I want. Thanks again.

(sry bout my english)

Thanks. I had forgotten about the tower. I cleaned it out at one point but then had to restore for some reason and never went back to it. Actually, I didn't realize how much that stuff was worth.

So I restored to just before triggering off the war and did the tower and got the trapper skills. Now I am back in Chapter 4 (just finished the New Mine) and I have enough money to do what I need to do. I'm glad I got those trapper skills. It looks like I'll need them for the Orc Slave's quest.

I did try the swampweed thing again, but it didn't work. I got another 50 from the fellow in the swamp by lying to him but the people at the new camp said I din't have any swamp weed when I offered to sell it to them.

Seque: Do I need to buy and read all the books the mage in the New Camp sells? Most of them just tell you what is in the manual (the spells for each circle, etc.). Do I get any game benefits from reading them such as I got from the bloodfly book? Do I need to keep the Chromanin books once I have read them?

Again, thanks everyone. I'd rather go back and redo when one of you gives me a good reason than go on after having made some bad decisions.

I just started Gothic again last night. I erred about being level 12 to take out the guards... I did it at level 6. I forgot how fast damage can escalate. Of course, I ended up flat on my back several times... but like any good convict, I always hide my ore stash for a rainy day before engaging in any activity that could threaten it.

"No ore? You useless bum!" Jackal, many, many times before I got his axe and crossbow.

Little did he know... stuffed in a chest in the abandoned demolished tower was 15,000...

Yes, I have 15,000 ore in chapter one. No I did not cheat in the slightest. I'm just thorough about abusing merchants... and anything I pay for I typically get back a second after the transaction is made.

Yes indeed... I AM a thug.

LOL, Xen you're killing me.
Doesnt beating up the merchants stunt the amount of stuff they give you in the next chapter?
I could have sworn that the chapter you beat them up on is the max that they will replenish (i.e. you wont see the late level multi-spell jewelry on a vendor that you beat up in chap.2)
I could be wrong, its been a while.
Oh and as for the ore, I'll give you one better...
all you have to do is drop it on the floor right next to you before you fight, they'll never see it. lol.

Here;s another tip if you want some nice, 'technically-not-your-fault' loot...
if you beat up the rogue thats sitting down all the time (he's between the arena and the S exit of old camp) you will (sometimes) trigger about 3-4 guards from the top to attack you and one of them is skip, and he's loaded.
But you have to do it during the day, when skip is near the armory, can get like 2-3 more guards to take the leap with him (if you're lucky)

Well... the first thing I did in chapter 2 was pound the Baal under the templar training area. I can't recall how much stuff I got off of him (always loot in a hurry before Cor Angar leaps immortally from the top deck and cuts me down). I did get a few more potions and upgraded jewlery for certain (ring of 10 armor physical when the first chapter I got ring of 5 armor off him).

I've got an end of chapter one save. I'll take away Cor Angar's precious immortality and kill him so I can loot at leisure and see what I got that wasn't available in chapter one.

As for the ore bit... yeah, but I like to PRETEND that they're not that stupid.

And flying guards are fun. Another fun thing to do, early game, is run past the two guards guarding the orc lands and lead the pack of orchounds back to them. After the doggies finish their dinner.... Damage 33 guard sword comes in handy for digger and rogue whacking.

Cor Angar, as far as I remember has Red Wind, the sword. I beat his ass down with a tag team of one Baal with a sleep spell and a Templar, possession rocks ^_^. Unless if he's the pale white named Templar up there and not the tanned hispanic dude. Or the pale black dude, can't tell. Most people in that game are white. Cus most people o'er in Deustchland are white. Deustchland=Germany for the dumbasses who never studided foreign countries in Elementry school somewhere l'ong the line.

And that's when I remembered that your body disappears after leaving it alone very long.. I had to reload a looooong way back. Anybody know how to get your body back? Might being able to insert your player work?

It's Deutschland, not Deustchland, and yes, most people in Germany are of German, Turkish, Italian, former Yugoslav or Greek stock and thus white. But there are black Germans as well. And please mind your language, you agreed to the forum rules when you signed on.

Reinserting your character does work, but the inventory will be gone.
