hmm, thats one way to join...

the other is to get an apprentership and then andre will accept u...

The thieves however... If you go down to the harbour, face out to sea, dive right in the water, and swim as far RIGHT as you can, you will find a door... however you need a key to get in and i cant remember exactly where you get that key from...

...from Attila. To make him see you, you'll have to do some quests in a *certain* way, here are the quests:

A Brazen Thief [given by Jora, a city merchant]
Bandit Raids [given by Hakon, weapon merchant at the city]
The False Messenger [given by Nagur, a guy who sits in the bar at the harbor]

I found them by swimming to the side. If you see lights and you have swam for a bit, go up, but make SURE you have killed Attila and got his key. And I subjest unless you got super armor a good weapon, don't fight them. But I had a axe and armor and blocked then attacked, I defeated all 3 and then join the guard.

Hmm... you *don't* need to kill Attila to get the key and slaughter the entire Thieves' Guild. Now you have missed one of the coolest quests in the game.
