FRAMERATE BOOST - "unofficial patch" |
|
http://www.templeofmondain.com/Morrowind.exe
Download this executable from the server above. The executable has been modified to remove the Safedisc wrapper that is known for its huge resource consumptions and system instabilities. Amazingly, the box contents include an insert warning the end user of how safedisc causes problems with "certain hardware configurations".
You might want to rename your old executable before replacing it with this one. You will also need to create a new shortcut in order to launch from your desktop. Most people are reporting a HUGE performance increase once they use this "patch". Try it.
NOTE: This is NOT a file intended to promote piracy. I provide this file only to those that have purchased the full game. YOU WILL STILL NEED THE CD IN THE DRIVE TO PLAY THE GAME; only the Safedisc wrapper has been removed. I do not endorse piracy of any nature.

The following is a direct quote from the insert included in the full version of Morrowind:
quote:
Macrovision's SafeDisc software, used for copy protection, may encounter problems during installation or while running the game. If you encounter such problems, make sure that there are no background programs running (press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and close any non-system programs you have running).
This may include, but is not limited to, Iomega drivers, Farstone Virtual Drive, hex or kernel editors or debugging programs, the Playback Software driver, VMWare Vitual machine, and McAfee Nuts and Bolts

You need some kind of extraction program like winace or winrar to open it.
I will try it out, and post my findings right after. |

Yeah, definate increase in FPS and load times. I went from 15-20 FPS in crowded areas, up to 20-30. Load times are noticably faster on my system, I recomend atleast trying it, you dont have to replace any files, just use that .EXE to start the game. |

yeah, you probably want to backup your old exe first. Just go into the morrowind folder and rename the Morrowind file to MorrowindOLD. Then rename the new exe to Morrowind.
You will also have to create a new shortcut. Right click on the new morrowind startup file and select create shortcut. Then drop this one on your desktop (or wherever you start the game from).
Glad this file helps out some people. |

I just want to say thanks for the tip. I tried the no cd program and it worked just great. I can pretty much tell that my fps are faster, the game is smoother, but i was wondering if there is a console command that displays the fps on the screen as you raom?
Thanks... |

A big thanks Jamison!
Downloaded the "ace" & that patch and now my exploration is much smoother... can't figure an exact FPS, but probably 5-10 easily.
Wow, what a game. |

Figuring your fps in this game is easy. Just go to your morrowind.ini, about 6 lines down from the top is a line that says:
Show FPS=0
Just edit it to:
Show FPS=1
And your good to go. You'll have a small fps counter in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
And thanks for the safedisck crack...god I hate that. _________________ Proprietor of
