| Freezes after a couple of minutes |
|
This is really anoying... 
I got this game yesterday and had really longed to play it after I played the first... But when I started it the first time it freezed after just 2 mins. I tried to exit all the programs running in background like virus controls, firewalls etc. But nothing works, it keeps freezing after a couple of minutes or less...
Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do? 
My computer is a AMD 3000+, nVidia Geforce FX 5800, 1024 DDR RAM and a harddisk of 120GB(7200rpm). All components with the most recent drivers. I don't understand whats wrong...  Anyone? |

Enter your BIOS immediately after a crash and check the CPU temperature.

Maybe that is the problem... But I have a big Aero / fan, which should be able to cool it down... Think I should install the original boxed fan..? |

My machine has several coolers plus a water cooling, yet Gothic 2 still causes my machine to crash from overheating at times  . About the temperature: it depends on the type of processor. Your AMD shouldn't reach 85° Celsius (because if it does, the processor will shut down). An acceptable constant temperature level for your processor would be somewhere between 50 and 60° Celsius (even though lower would be a lot better, of course).

And that's why i am reacting, because after the crash, the CPU temperature is below 50 and down in 41 degrees... I don't understand anything...
Anybody who has another suggestion?
I really long to play this game, so please help me... |

I always recommend a re-install before doing anything as drastic as changing operating systems or doing internal work on your PC. If it works fine on other games, then the problem is probably Gothic 2-specific. If you find the problem is not temperature related, you might try changing operating systems. Your operating system and hardware combination might be working together to cause a problem with the Gothic 2 software. That was the problem I experienced with the original Gothic on my prior PC. I ended up changing my operating system 3 times (Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, then finally Windows 9 .

Below 50°C is fine. Then it has to be something else.
What OS are you using? What chipset is on your mainboard?

I had some trouble with power when I played Gothic 1, the whole machine crashed after a few minutes just like you said. Try overclocking your power source (VCore voltage) by 0.5 notches, that fixed the problem in my case (although you need to be aware it will in all probability reduce the board's lifetime).

Now I know...
I have nVidia nForce2 SPP chipset...
Does that tell you anything?
And one more thing... The same thing happened on FIFA 2003, but it doesn't happen in Morrowind... Can it be something about the graphics engine?
Anyone who can help me now?

As I said, try the VCore voltage trick (check BIOS settings) if you dare. Might help, since it did help me.
Then again, it might not  .

and play with those options only if u are a average Pc user cos u can fuck up ur pc really if u do some wrong shjit there. That place is the most important thing in Pc its the brain of pc  |
