becoming a mage

Hi, it might be a silly question, but I'm a newbie, just bought the game today

anyways, I really wanna become a mage.. In every roleplaying game, I played the game with a mage first, and I wanna keep that tradition

but I find it extremely difficult to become one. I read in the book that was added to the game that I have to go to a temple, give 1000 gold and a sheep. In order to find the temple, I will have to buy a map which will also cost gold.

so 1000 gold + a sheep + a map, makes a lot of gold. And I have found no way to get my hands on such an amount, for killing wolves will only yield me little money, and a lot of effort, plus I must pay the guards 100 gold to let me back in.

I don't want to cheat, but does any1 know how to get my hands on enough gold to finance me becoming a mage? (novice)

thanks

To get lots of gold early in the game, learn Pickpocketting.

Be creative.

- There are other ways to get into the city. You don't need to pay that 100 gold. (e.g. Have you tried jumping over the gate?)

- Travel around. Kill lots of wolves, wargs, shadowbeasts, etc. Sell excess weapons that are dropped by monsters.

- There are many quests in the game that are designed for newbies. Do them and you may earn some gold.

- If you're Harad's apprentice, forge swords for him. You can get unlimited number of raw steel from Bennet, a blacksmith at Onar's farm.

- Join the Thieves Guild. Pickpocket; Loot somebody's chests.

- Learn how to use the Oblivion spell so that you can knock people down and steal their stuff without penalty.

No, dont kill too many monsters that will crush you in one blow! There are many easy newbie quests that are given out in Khoronis. I got at lest 1500 gold for doing those. To get the sheep you have to go to Onar's farm. It cost 100 gold for a sheep which you can buy from a guy who's in the fields. But when going back to the monestary watch out for wolves! They will eat your sheep, so take care of them before you go back to the monestary.

It feels good to help a new recrute for Milten's gang of fire mages.
