Thief: Deadly Shadows (PC/Xbox) - Gamespy's 15th Most Wanted |
|
Gamespy's Most Wanted Games of 2004 has listed <a href="http://gamespy.com/preview2004/index15.shtml" target="_blank">Thief III</a> at number 15:<blockquote><em>The game's also sporting a shiny new engine treatment. More specifically, the game's being powered by the engine that ran Ion Storm's recent Deus Ex: Invisible War. The IW engine, while not necessarily the best looking 3D engine available, has it where it counts -- in the shockingly realistic physics and lighting. A quick demonstration of the game with it's flying torches, dynamic lighting and completely interactive world suggest the depth of gameplay the latest Thief is shooting for.</em></blockquote>Hmmm. |

Not impressed... apart from being a poor game, Deus Ex IW was also an utter horror to play with regards to framerate, and what you should be able to expect from a medium or high end system.
Anything out today that stutters along on a 2+gHz machine with enough RAM and a good GFX card is quite simply poor programming. We had a small stint of developers a few years back actually trying to write good, optimized code, but we seem to be slipping back towards sloppy coding and excuses like "buy a new GFX! What Radeon 9800 or GeForce 5900? So you're saying you don't have top of the line... your loss, mate." _________________ He killed fifty to his left and fifty to his right. Shocking physics, yes, shockingly realistic physics, no. The physics engine is the worst Havok implementation evar. Accidentally bumped into that heavy console thing? Whoops, there it goes flying across the room... |

I find it funny how you people judge Thief 3 already and think you know it is bad...why not wait and see how it gets???
Think about what DX1 offered and what Thief 1 & 2 offered...DX was much more complex than Thief 1&2, so maybe Thief 3 will be as good as its predecessors? |

This game WILL suck. They are already making it for Xbox owners in mind. IE: the 3rd person view. That totally ruins the FPS experience, you slide along a wall an can see everything ahead without even exposing yourself.... They are gonna cater this game for the console just like DiX2. How sad.
I also agree about the physics engine. How can all the reviewers praise it? Have they every interacted with an object in real life? I'm sorry but that crap-ass "physics" engine was pathetic.
Myth1 or 2, now there was a nice one. |

I loved Thief 1 and 2 but have no experience with the engine they're gonna use now.
But as with all games I'm interested in I'm having a "wait and see"attitude.
It could be great - it could be not. Nobody knows yet untill it's out.
If there's gonna be a demo I'm sure as hell gonna give it a try and THEN judge it for myself. |

I think that people can judge what Thief 3 will be like from DX2. The fact is the levels will be small, and that it is being developed with primarily the X-Box in mind. To be honest I don't know why EIDIOS still produces games for the PC, as they obviously don't have a clue. If I ever get a X-Box I might give Thief 3 a try, otherwise there is no way I will be buying it. I'd rather spend my money on quality PC games. |

Thief 3: Sounds very interesting, but can it really live up to the very high standard (expectations), we got from playing it's predecessors?
Graphic Engine: IW Engine (Deux Ex 2): Brand new? Perhaps, but playing DEx2, was not impressive at all graphic wise. Very unpolished for a FPS, the graphics looks already 2-3 years old. Even with the best graphic cards, the engine was too heavy for smooth running, and not even a 3 Ghz CPU, could make it run smoothly in the normal high resolution many other better looking games would run perfectly. Okay it's probably okay to run as low as 1024x 768, and still getter better graphics than Thief 2, but as others also did mention, the Levels in Deux Ex 2 was very small, I think it indicates, that they are aware of this engines major flaws. I hope it don't mean that we will not be able to sneak through an entire town, and then search trough a 6 storeys big mansion without having to wait for a load screen several times.
Thief Game: It's a first person sneaking game, and it's this unique fact that makes the Thief's game very popular and outstanding from the FP crowd, but when the developers make a statement, that there will be a possibility for 3rd person view for more immersive????? gameplay???????, I really get worried. Not that I ever could dream about leaving FP mode in a Thief game, but the statement indicates that they have not catched the idea of Thief at all.
Okay, Thief 3 is a very good news in my ears, and despite rumours and facts, I will defently play the demo when i comes out, and I will try really to give this game a fair chance, and let the game itself convince me _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

Ahh...this game is gonna rule because it IS a console game. Stealth Action started on consoles. Tenchu & Metal Gear Solid came out in 97...before Thief, before Deus Ex. And like that great console game "Invisible War", Thief 3(the console game) is gonna smoke Thief 1&2. Too bad for all 3 of you DX1 fanboys. Until then, I am gonna hone my skills with these inferior console wannabe games...Deus Ex1, Thief1&2. _________________ Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities…there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars…Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet. - Robert E.
